Coming to China was the best decision we ever made. The only regret? Not coming sooner! Interning in China is the perfect place to make yourself stand out from the rest when it comes to job application process, to allow yourself break your comfort zone, as well as see firsthand how Chinese people think and communicate. If you really wanted us to list the reasons why you should intern in China, that’s probably best done over a Chinese tea or, for the thicker-skinned, some Chinese baijiu, but for now we’ll just give you a few:

Many of us here at Mandarintern came to China without a clear plan for the future. One thing we all knew, though, was that by coming to China we were making a strategic decision about future. As the world’s second largest economy and with a population of over 1.4 billion people (1.4 billion…..), we were sure that by coming here the only way was forward. With such a vast network of, well everything, here, opportunities are a-plenty, and in a fast moving world (and there’s nowhere in the world that’s moving faster than China), it’s highly possible that what you start doing here is not where you finish. In China, you never know what’s around the corner and that, for us, is what makes it so exciting. By coming here, you’re getting your foot in the door and opening up a world of possibilities.

It goes without saying that the reason why people intern is to give themselves an upper hand when it comes to landing that job. In an ever more competitive job market, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for candidates to really make themselves stand out. Having China on your CV tells employers that are you strategic, adaptable and willing to learn more about the world around you.

One of the beauties of travelling to different countries is the chance to observe how people of different cultures live and interact. China’s 5,000 year history means that its cultural practices and societal norms are perhaps different to many of those you might be used to the in the West. See firsthand how to operate in Chinese society, what to do and what not to do, how to behave and, ultimately, how to do business!

Interning wherever you are is bound to be an exciting experience where you meet new, interesting people, but from our experience those that are willing to make the journey to China are just that little more special. Meet young, hungry, like-minded people who, like you, are making the strategic decision to come to China to further their future.

With over 900 million native speakers and millions more now learning it as a second language, Mandarn has quickly become the language to learn of the 21st century. Not only is learning Mandarin an intellectually rewarding pursuit, but in a world where China is taking a leading stance in so many areas, learning Mandarin equips you with an invaluable, lifelong skill that puts you ahead of the rest.

Being young is beautiful thing. You’ve got the world at your feet and everything to look forward to. Not only that, but in the space of a generation opportunities have opened up to people like you that were never available to your parents or grandparents. Make the most of it. Why not further yourself while furthering your career?

Needless to say the breadth of culinary options and variety of flavours you’ll find in real China go far beyond those you’ll find at your local Chinese takeaway! From the sweetness of Shanghai cuisine to the spiciness of Sichuan and everything in between, China is a foodie’s heaven. Your internship is the perfect gateway to experience China’s rich culinary culture for yourself.
